Travel Motivators and Barriers

Travel Motivators:
  •      A travel motivator for me to go to Tobago is the climate. Being in the Caribbean, Tobago has very warm temperatures, but not so warm to the point that it’s too hot. For example, on average, the temperature never exceeds 30˚C, which if it did, would be a travel barrier for me.
  •      A second travel motivator for me is the scuba diving available in Tobago. Around Tobago, there are some of the most magnificent reefs, left in the world. Also, Tobago has a very diverse sea creature population that I would love to get to swim with such as Hawksbill Turtle, shown in the picture to the right.
  • Tobago is also a great place to relax. With the warm weather, calming beaches and perhaps the Calypso music playing in the background. I would like to go to Tobago as a way to relax from all of the dress from school, work and other daily stress factors.

Travel Barriers:
  • One barrier for me to travel to Tobago is the cost. For example, the plane ticket cost $780; that’s almost $800 before I even arrive at my destination. Also, most of the accommodations that can found on the internet for Tobago are more expensive resorts rather than cheap hotels or hostels so the places to stay are limiting for a budget traveler.
  • Another barrier for travelling to Tobago in the summer is that it’s during the rainy season. This means that even though the temperatures will be beautiful, the rain may prevent me from doing certain activities, such as sun bathing on the beach.
  • For a place like Tobago, fear is usually a popular travel barrier because of the high crime rate. Tourists are scared of being robbed while in travelling, and not having their belongings or the sufficient about of money for the remaining of their trip, or being the victim of any other crimes.
