Health and Safety

To stay safe in Tobago, I am going to follow the recommendations of the Canadian government, as well as the Lonely Planet website. These include:
  • Avoiding walking alone at night, or in areas that seem to be less wealthy and virtually untouched by the tourist crowds.
  • Theft, like in many tourist destinations, is common. I need to keep an eye on any and all value belongings, as well as keeping the amount of cash I carry small and or much hidden in my bag.
  • While in touristy areas, where the local merchants have aggressive selling tactics, I am going to be firm when I am not interested yet still polite.
  • Small fleas are common, and like to bite, as well as mosquito in the rain forest, so I will be using a strong bug repellent, and possibly even a bug netted hat when in particularly bad areas.
